Features in your home that create bad feng shui

Category Property Advice

The ancient Chinese idea of living in harmony with your surroundings is embodied in the practice of feng shui. Adapting your living space to be more in harmony with nature may boost your energy and happiness and even offer you a little luck. Because of this, homeowners have employed feng shui as a planning and decoration tool for their homes for countless centuries.

In an effort to improve the space and draw in more beneficial chi energy, some of the worst feng shui mistakes are made. Unfortunately, feng shui errors prevent your home from having the energy flow you need and want. Here is a list of typical decorating blunders you should avoid if you want to apply feng shui concepts to your home.

  • The power of mirrors

Mirrors are symbolic as they may broaden your perspective and reveal inner truths for the observer when they are flat and clear. Damaged or distorted mirrors will not reveal this truth.

It is also believed that you risk losing positive energy by hanging a mirror directly opposite the doorway. The purpose of a mirror is to reflect good energy, so a mirror facing the doorway will push away the positive flow that is attempting to enter your home.

If you wish to repel negative energy, a strategically positioned Bagua mirror can do the work. This circular mirror with an octagon frame and symbols painted on it is a sacred feng shui relic that is frequently placed wrongly. Bagua mirrors should never be used to decorate a home's interior. It is always found on the outside of a house.

  • A bed without a headboard

In feng shui practice, a headboard must be securely connected to the bed and to a strong wall. It's bad feng shui to have a mattress on the floor or a bed floating in space. The headboard helps to support, enhance, and link your relationships, general well-being, and life.

  • The energy from doorways

Avoid putting anything behind a door that stops it from opening at least 90 degrees. Even if you have lovely hooks that are well arranged and clutter-free, it is not good feng shui if the door cannot open at least 90 degrees. It restricts the amount of positive energy and possibilities you may get on an energetic level. More so, the simple act of entering the door is made challenging and unpleasant.

Placing a bed near a door, where energy flows in and out, undermines the serene environment you're attempting to create in the bedroom. If you can't avoid sharing the same wall as the door, you may increase your good energy by hanging or tilting a mirror so you can see the door's reflection from your bed.

  • Plants in the bedroom

A slew of potted plants in your bedroom may detract from the room's positive energy and may even harm your relationship if you share the space with a spouse. This is because, unlike flowers in a vase, these plants are actively developing and do not emit the calm energy required in the bedroom.

Sound, aroma, and light are crucial for healthy feng shui, so add music, chimes, and candles or firelight in the bedroom. However, keep plants for your kitchen window sills, the living room, and the patio.

  • Storage under your bed

While it is convenient, placing storage under your bed is not healthy feng shui. Storage boxes, loose storage, mattresses with built-in storage, and other similar goods are included. The storage under your bed might represent subconscious barriers in many parts of your life, including love connections. If you must store items beneath the bed, keep them soft and sleep-related, such as soft cushions, blankets, and linens.
